In the match 44 of IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders are up against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. KKR need to win this game to keep themselves going in the tournament, while a slip-up for Punjab Kings could also prove to be tricky.
Glenn Maxwell Returns After Missing Games Against RCB
Both the teams have made some interesting changes, and one of them is that Marcus Stoinis has been dropped by Punjab Kings. In his place, Glenn Maxwell is back in the XI, while Azmatullah Omarzai has also been selected in place of Xavier Bartlett.
The reason for inclusion of Maxwell over Marcus Stoinis is because the latter is not giving overs in this IPL. Glenn Maxwell, on the other hand, can be useful with his spin against KKR as they have three left-handers in top-seven, and there are less spin options at PBKS disposal. Thus, having Maxwell gives them extra spin option alongside Chahal and though he has not delivered with the bat so far, he can be a match-winner if he gets going.
Glenn Maxwell Provides Variety In Punjab Kings' Bowling Attack
Glenn Maxwell is also a good player of spin compared to Stoinis, and it also went in his favour with KKR boasting of a quality spin attack. Also, Stoinis' form with the bat has not been great either, and with Azmatullah Omarzai back in the side as a seam-bowling all-rounder, PBKS management probably decided to keep variety and bring in Maxwell.
Punjab Kings currently have 10 points in their kitty in eight matches, and a win for them would put them in a comfortable position.
