As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 faces a temporary suspension amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions, the financial impact on most lucrative tournament is mounting swiftly. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that 16 matches including the playoffs has been kept at pause for one week.

The immediate reason for the suspension is the ongoing military tension at the borders, with India’s armed forces engaged in high-alert operations against Pakistan. 

BCCI To Face Huge Loss For IPL 2025 Suspension

According to Hindustan Times, the estimated loss for every cancelled or postponed IPL match ranges between ₹100 crore and ₹125 crore. Even after insurance compensation, the net loss to stakeholders especially the BCCI, broadcasters, sponsors, and franchises still hovers loss for each match. 

It is important to note that IPL suspension will also impact the vendors, transport operators, stadium staff, and local businesses including.

When Will IPL 2025 Restart? 

For now, the IPL governing council is exploring all possible scenarios. The BCCI has advised franchises to stay on alert for a potential restart, though insiders suggest this could be more procedural than practical.

Talking about the foreign players they have flown back home amid safety concerns following the launch of Operation Sindoor. However, officials remain optimistic that most will return if the tournament resumes within ten days, provided international cricket calendars allow.

If not, the only possible window for completing the remainder of the IPL could fall between August and September. That would, however, require rescheduling India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh and could also jeopardize the already uncertain T20 Asia Cup.
