According to the emerging reports, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli has made up his mind to retire from Test cricket. Several reliable media agencies have reported that the veteran cricketer has even reached out to the BCCI, while the board is still hopeful of a U-turn at the player's end.

Virat Kohli Was Keen To Lead Indian Test Side; BCCI Denied: Report

As per the Times Of India (TOI), legendary batter Virat Kohli was keen to take up the leadership role amid India's recent struggles in the format. It's worth mentioning that India had a forgettable time in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, losing the high-voltage series by a comprehensive 3-1 margin.

With Rohit Sharma struggling with poor form and Jasprit Bumrah's career getting marred by a back injury, Virat Kohli had come forward to lead the Test side. However, as the report claims, the BCCI denied his request, with the Indian team management looking to appoint a young captain for the future.

"A new WTC cycle is starting. Future and continuity has to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period. There can't be any stopgap solutions for such an important series. The last two Test series haven't been ideal for the team and the England series is very crucial," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

The report also states that Kohli had decided to retire from Tests during the BGT, even sharing his plans with some of his teammates. However, as soon as the Champions Trophy approached, the focus was quickly shifted to the ODI format.

Having said that, the BCCI has apparently requested Kohli to play the England Tests, with veteran batter Rohit Sharma recently retiring from the format. Currently, the ball is in his court and it will be interesting to see what comes up next.
