Women’s Premier League season 3 is set to commence in the month of February and BCCI has reportedly shortlisted two venues. According to Cricbuzz, WPL 2025 will be held in two phases, with Baroda and Lucknow being identified as probable venues.
The WPL 2025 edition is around the corner, and according to sources, the BCCI is pretty busy with final arrangements. The next season is likely to take off during the first week of February and its final around March 8 or 9.
The season is likely to host around 23 games, including knockouts and final. However, the venue has become a dilemma for the BCCI.
BCCI keen on hosting WPL 2025 in two phases
Cricbuzz reported that BCCI is planning to conduct the WPL 2025 edition in two phases, and Baroda emerged as a frontrunner to host the second phase of the tournament, including the final.
Baroda’s newly inaugurated Kotambi Stadium has garnered attention for its international-standard facilities. Opened last month, the venue recently hosted India Women’s ODIs against the West Indies and several domestic tournaments, including Ranji Trophy games.
To ensure its readiness, the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) will also host the knockout rounds of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy under lights.
The venue for the first phase could likely be Lucknow, as BCCI reportedly held informal talks with UPCA.
The inaugural WPL season was held entirely in Mumbai, while Bengaluru and Delhi shared hosting duties for the second season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions and will look to retain their crown.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s Fitness in Focus
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been called to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Although officially rested for the three-match ODI series against Ireland in Rajkot, it is believed that she is actually away due to an injury or a fitness check-up. Another player who has been rested for the series is Renuka Singh Thakur.
