The time has finally arrived for the IPL fans. All their curiosities, questions, and anticipations have been answered. All the IPL teams have announced their full list of retained players.
This article will look at all the details after the list of players is released. But before taking a look at the retention list of the franchises, here are the rules for retention -
IPL 2025 Retention Rules
Each team could retain a maximum of six players. Maximum five players could be international capped players, while a maximum of two players can be uncapped.
There was no restriction on the number of international players retained.
The retention purse for each team was INR 75 Cr. The franchises could have divided these 75 Cr as they seemed fit among their retained players.
The minimum salary cap for each retention should have been - 1st Retention - INR 18 Cr 2nd Retention - INR 14 Cr 3rd Retention - INR 11 Cr 4th Retention - INR 18 Cr 5th Retention - INR 14 Cr Uncapped Players - INR 4 Cr

The Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. However, they have released their title winning skipper for the upcoming season. The 1st retention for KKR is Rinku Singh. Here is a look at their retained player list.
Sunrisers Hyderabad - Retained Players for IPL 2025
The Sunrisers Hyderabad played brilliant cricket in the last edition of the tournament. Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, SRH changed their approach and took the team by storm. So, they have tried keep their core together and have kept their skipper also as a part of the next edition. Notably, Heinirch Klaasen is the highest paid player in this retention list.
Chennai Super Kings - Retained Players for IPL 2025
The Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most successful teams in the tournament. They have been impeccably consistent in league and share the spot for the most number of titles (5) with the Mumbai Indians. They have used the Uncapped Retention rule to keep MS Dhoni as a part of their team. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are their top retentions for IPL 2025.
Mumbai Indians, the five time IPL champions have not been able to repeat their antics from their successful seasons in the last couple of edition of the tournament. It was dreadful season for them under the leadership of new captain, Hardik Pandya. However, they have kept faith in the all-rounder, retained him and as per the latest reports he stays as their captain. Also, MI have retained all five of their big names.
The Rajasthan Royals have performed well in the last few seasons of the tournament. However, they have not won a trophy after 2007, the team has looked like a complete unit under the leadership of Sanju Samson. As a result, Sanju Samson has been retained. They have also retained Sandeep Sharma using the uncapped player rule.

Delhi Capitals - Retained Players for IPL 2025
The Capitals have gone ahead and released their biggest face, Rishabh Pant. It looks they will try and rebuild their core. Axar Patel is their top retention for IPL 2025.
The Punjab Kings have been one of the most underperforming teams in the history of the league. They have shifted around their core the most and the story remains the same. They have retained only two players and both are uncapped retentions. They will go into the mega auction with the highest purse amount.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Retained Players for IPL 2025
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru command one of the biggest fan armies in the league. Despite being hugely favoured by the fans and having some big names in their side over the course of the tournament, they have not yet won the title. In their retention list, the name of Virat Kohli was not a big surprise. However, it seems they are trying to a form a new core again and hence have retained only three players.
Lucknow Super Giants - Retained Players for IPL 2025
One of the newer members of the tournament performed decently in their two editions. However, LSG failed to qualify for the playoffs and it seemed the intent was missing in the team. They have hone ahead and have released their skipper KL Rahul. Notably, Nicholas Pooran is their highest paid retained player.
The Gujarat Titans started of their IPL journey by winning their first ever edition of the tournament. They followed it up by becoming the runners up in the next edition. However, after Hardik Pandya's departure ahead of the last season, the team failed to gel together and deliver the same quality of performance. They have kept the faith in their core and probably will allow Gill to lead the team once more.
