BCCI sent a note to all ten franchises stating that the IPL 2025 mega auction will be pruned and accelerated after playing no 116. As reported by Cricbuzz, since 574 players have been shortlisted, it is tiring to get all of them under the hammer within a span of two days.

A total of 574 players will go under the hammer at the mega auction for IPL 2025, scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. Among 1574 registered players, 10 teams shortlisted as few as 574 which they wish to chase on the auction table.

However, with the auction already being dragged out to two days, BCCI further decided to prune this process by introducing an acceleration bidding process for the final few sets of players.

BCCI to trim auction process after 574 players gets shortlisted

According to Cricbuzz, BCCI sent an advisory to all 10 IPL teams stating that after player no.116, the auction will adopt an accelerated process. Starting with player number 117, Ricky Bhui, franchises would name a finite set of players to be put up for bidding from the rest. This would ensure things get pretty efficient, where franchises spend their time with preferred candidates.

Additionally, after the accelerated phase, franchises can request unpresented or unsold players to reappear for bidding. More details on this will be shared by the board during the pre-auction briefing.

IPL 2025 mega auction will begin with two sets of marquee players. Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Mitchell Starc have been placed in M1, whereas Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj will feature in M2.

Jofra Archer excluded, Vaibhav youngest entry

The 574 shortlisted players included notable omissions, such as Jofra Archer. The English pacer was made unavailable by the ECB since they wish to see him fit for the summer Test season. On the other hand, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar has become the youngest entry in IPL auction history as he managed to get shortlisted as 491st player in uncapped slot.
