Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction was filled with excitement and big-money buys. The biggest headline came when Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant was purchased by LSG for a staggering ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in this auction. This record-breaking move came just 22 minutes after Shreyas Iyer was acquired by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore.
It is important to mention that, despite the flurry of big-money deals, some notable players went unsold on day 1. These included Australian opener David Warner, England's Jonny Bairstow, and Devdutt Padikkal. On day 2, some other marquee names expected to generate high bids, include Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran, and Prithvi Shaw. The auction is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, over two days (November 24-25).
Out of the original 1,574 candidates, 577 players were selected for the auction. Of these, 208 are international players, 12 are uncapped international prospects, and 318 are uncapped Indian players.
The first day saw ₹467.95 crore spent, with 84 players presented for auction, 68 of whom were sold, and four retained via the RTM card. On Day Two, 32 more players will be auctioned off, and the accelerated bidding process will begin with player No. 117.
