The IPL retentions are finalised as all ten teams have sorted out their retained players' list, and now the focus shifts towards the mega auction, which is set to take place on November 24, and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
A total of 1,574 players have registered their names in the auction as teams fight it out to bag the best players in their team. A total of 204 slots are up for grabs as all the teams have already secured the services of some players through the retention list.
Retention day's biggest surprise - Buttler, Maxwell not retained by their franchises
During the retention deadline day, some of the IPL franchises took a bold call and released their key players. While some decisions were commendable, others looked baffling. One smart decision was made by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to release Glenn Maxwell. The star all-rounder is not getting any younger and had a horrendous last season for them.
As a result, the franchise decided to part ways with the ever-so destructive Maxwell. However, unlike RCB, Rajasthan Royals made an amusing choice as they released their best batter, Jos Buttler.
The Englishman was arguably their star player for the last three seasons, however, RR decided to go the unconventional way by not retaining him. Now, with the mega auction approaching, the two have set their base prices.
Maxwell, Buttler set their base price at 2 crore
Both the explosive batters have set their base price at INR 2 crore. They both are still valuable in the T20 format and teams will try and get their services on the auction day. Buttler is a household name and despite his recent injury track-record, the English skipper's price is likely to go above the 10 crore mark.
Similarly, Maxwell had an ordinary IPL 2024 campaign, but given his reputation, teams will go after him in the auctions. Apart from the two names, the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer have their base price at 2 crore.
