In the latest development, Australian wicket-keeper batter, Josh Inglis has been appointed as the new white-ball captain for the upcoming T20Is Vs Pakistan. Interestingly, he will also lead the Aussies in the final ODI as the Test players get ready for the Border-Gavaskar Series Vs India.

Inglis has replaced Pat Cummins as the captain of the team, who, along with senior players - Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will miss the final ODI of the series as they prepare for the India challenge in Perth.

With Cummins geting ready for the BGT, and regular T20I skipper, Mitch Marsh out on paternity leave, selectors have shown faith in Inglish, who has the prior experience of leading in the domestic circuit.

"Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field," national selection panel chair George Bailey said in announcing the changes today.

"He has led Australia A previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role.

In the absence of key players, pace bowlers, Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson have been added to the squad, alongside keeper-batter, Josh Phillipe.

Australia eyeing series win in 2nd ODI

In a nail-biting contest, Australia emerged victorious by 2-wickets in the first ODI at the MCG. Batting first, Pakistan posted just 203 as the Aussie bowlers ran riot. Only Babar Azam (37), and Mohammad Rizwan (44) provided some sort of resistance and courtesy of a late assault from Naseem Shah, Pakistan posted an average total.

However, their bowlers made a match ouy of it as Haris Rauf scalped 3 wickets to turn the tides of the contest. But skipper Pat Cummins kept his cool and remained unbeaten at 32 off 31 balls as the home team scraped past the winning line. Now, with the seniors rested for the final ODI, Australia will be eyeing a series win in the second ODI.
