1,574 players registered their names for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, but perhaps the biggest surprise was seeing the name of 42-year-old James Anderson in the registered names.

The England veteran who retired in July this year, decided to enter the IPL auction pool for the first time in his career and interestingly he has set his base price at INR 1.25 crore. The England great has never competed at any global T20 franchise league and last played T20 cricket for Lancashire in 2014.

Overall, Anderson has played 44 T20s, with 19 of those coming for the Three Lions. In these matches, the seam bowler has racked up 41 wickets, which showcases that T20 is perhaps not his best format. Anderson, wanted to prolong his Test career, and as a result, he hasn't played any white-ball cricket for England since their 2015 World Cup campaign.

Surprisingly, Anderson made his T20I debut for England in 2007, and last played for them in 2009, as England decided to move on from him in the game's shortest format. 52 Englishmen have registered for the auction, and Anderson is being accompanied by Jofra Archer, who is eyeing to make a successful IPL comeback after an underwhelming campaign with Mumbai.
