Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) edged out Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a heart-stopping IPL 2024 clash, clinching a one-run victory at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, SRH posted 201/3, thanks to Travis Head's 58 and Nitish Kumar Reddy's career-best 76*. Heinrich Klaasen also chipped in with a quickfire 42*.

In response, Rajasthan Royals started poorly, losing Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson early. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag revived the chase with a 133-run partnership, both scoring fifties.

Despite their efforts, SRH pacers, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, held their nerve in the death overs to see their side home by a solitary run.

Here's the timeline of how SRH vs RR panned out in Hyderabad-

Tepid Takeoff As Abhishek Sharma And Anmolpreet Singh Depart Cheaply

Sunrisers Hyderabad, after choosing to bat first, faced a subdued start to their innings. The openers, unable to provide a swift launch, contributed to a rather restrained scoring rate.

Early wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh in the powerplay further dampened the momentum, with the team scoring a modest 37 runs in the first six overs.

Head, Nitish Revive SRH Innings With Brilliant Fifties

Travis Head, despite a scratchy beginning, anchored the innings without succumbing to pressure, scoring a valuable half-century.

Alongside him, Nitish Kumar Reddy, coming in at number four, seized the opportunity to deliver his career-best performance.

Their partnership blossomed into a pivotal 96-run stand for the third wicket, stabilizing and then accelerating the innings.

Controversy Strikes over Head’s Run Out; Klaasen Provides Late Blitz

Just when things seemed smooth, controversy struck with a contentious run-out call involving Travis Head.

The South Australian’s bat was suspected to be in the air, yet he narrowly escaped being run out, only to be bowled by Avesh Khan on the very next delivery after the TV umpire's debatable decision. Despite this setback, Head’s contribution was a solid 58 off 44 balls.

Following the fall of Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy, unbeaten at 76 off 42 balls, joined forces with Heinrich Klaasen.

The duo went hammer and tongs, bludgeoning the opposition's bowlers. Their explosive partnership added a quickfire 70 runs, propelling SRH past the 200-mark to a formidable total of 201/3.

Disastrous Start and Daring Comeback by Jaiswal & Parag

Rajasthan Royals faced an uphill battle from the outset, losing their key players Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s lethal opening over, both departing without troubling the scorers.

This early jolt could have derailed their chase of a daunting 202 total, but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag had other ideas. The young duo dug deep, mounting a formidable counterattack.

Despite both receiving reprieves, they capitalized fully, each registering a half-century and weaving together a vital 133-run partnership.

Their efforts kept the Royals in the hunt, turning a potential rout into a thrilling contest but they failed to finish the game and were dismissed in quick succession.

Bhuvneshwar’s Last-Gasp Heroics Seal the Deal

Just when it seemed Rajasthan Royals might ride the momentum to victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad's pace trio, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with skipper Pat Cummins and T Natarajan, tightened the screws in the death overs.

In a climax that could hardly have been scripted, Bhuvneshwar delivered the final blow, dismissing Rovman Powell lbw with just two runs needed off the last ball.

This dramatic conclusion handed SRH a heart-stopping one-run victory, showcasing Bhuvneshwar’s clutch performance with a total of three wickets, supported ably by Cummins and Natarajan, who each claimed two crucial scalps.
