Punjab Kings (PBKS) emphatically defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets in Match 49 of IPL 2024 at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.

CSK burst out of the gates in the powerplay but hit a wall in the middle overs, thanks to the tight bowling from Punjab Kings' spinners.

Despite Ruturaj Gaikwad's solid 62 off 48 balls, Chennai Super Kings could only muster a total of 162/7 in their 20 overs.

Chasing a rather modest target of 163, Jonny Bairstow took the bull by the horns, leading the charge for the Kings. 

Rilee Rossouw also shone brightly, playing a quickfire knock as Punjab Kings crossed the finish line with 13 balls to spare at 17.5 overs.

Rahane and Gaikwad Set the Stage With Blistering Start

Having been put into bat, CSK got off on the right foot in their innings, putting up a solid 55 runs in the powerplay without losing a single wicket.



Openers Gaikwad and Rahane laid a strong foundation, stitching together a 64-run partnership for the first wicket. Ajinkya Rahane contributed a steady 29 before his dismissal to Harpreet Brar.

Shashank & Curran Close the Deal

In the latter part of the innings, Shashank Singh played a steadying role with his 25 off 26 balls, while Sam Curran provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 26 off 20 balls.

The duo steered the team past Chennai's total with ease, as Punjab Kings reached their target in 17.5 overs, bolstered by 10 extras conceded by the CSK bowlers.
