In the 49th game of IPL 2024, between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), it was a throwback to old IPL matches where 160 was a par score to compete.

CSK batted first, posting a total of 162-7. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the CSK skipper, played a crucial innings, scoring 62 runs off 48 balls, and took CSK beyond the 160-run mark.

In response, PBKS had a relatively relaxed chase, minimizing risks. Chennai's lack of a top spinner became evident in this match, as Jadeja and Moeen Ali couldn't replicate the effectiveness of Brar and Chahar.

Rilee Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow both scored 40+ runs, making PBKS's chase appear effortless. Captain Sam Curran and Shashank Singh then comfortably guided PBKS to victory.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad attributed the loss to the pitch conditions. He remarked that the pitch wasn't favorable for batting in the first innings, but the situation reversed when Punjab batted.

He  also acknowledged practicing the toss before matches due to his consistent lack of success in winning it.

"I've practiced the tosses (during the practice sessions), it's not going well in the match, not sure what to do. To be truthful, I'm under pressure when I go to the middle (for the toss)"

Despite the loss, CSK are still on the fourth position in the points table. However, if SRH secure a victory against RR, they can surpass CSK.

This IPL season has been exceptionally competitive, with nearly all teams still in contention for a playoff spot mathematically.
