You don't often see MS Dhoni struggling to connect while coming to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. However, the unthinkable happened on Wednesday (May 1) when CSK were up against Punjab Kings in Chepauk.

Dhoni came to bat at the end of the 18th over, ahead of Daryl Mitchell. However, he failed to make the connection with the ball, as he played two dots before taking a single off Rahul Chahar in the penultimate over.

Mitchell came to the crease after Moeen lost his wicket in the same over, and when things were about to close, a dramatic turn of events left everyone shellshocked.

While facing Arshdeep Singh during the final over, Dhoni played a low full-toss towards the deep cover. Mitchell went for a run, but Dhoni uncharacteristically denied it, leaving Mitchell to go back to his crease.

In fact, had the throw was direct, and broke the stumps at the non-striker's end, Mitchell would have been gone.
