CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad stamped his authority against the Punjab Kings as he slammed his season fourth half-century to not only lead CSK to a competitive total but also set up a personal milestone in the orange cap leaderboard.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were up against Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the 49th fixture of the IPL 2024 season earlier today in Chennai. CSK were asked to bat first, and surprisingly, the batters struggled heavily in the middle.

Ajinkya Rahane’s yet another failure and Shivam Dube’s golden duck dismissal forced captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to fend for himself.

However, Gaikwad, who has been in sublime form this season, soaked up the responsibility to slam the fourth half-century of the IPL 2024 season. While Ruturaj took 45 deliveries to unlock the milestone, it was worth it, as CSK was in deep trouble.

Moreover, the fifty also helped Ruturaj Gaikwad with his personal milestone as he surpassed Virat Kohli to top the orange cap leaderboard with 509 runs in 10 games.

While the captain’s average and strike rate were comparatively lower than Kohli's, the nine extra runs helped him fetch the orange cap comfortably.

This achievement was a much-needed confidence booster for Ruturaj Gaikwad, as he recently narrowly missed out on India’s T20 World Cup squad despite notable numbers.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s half century propelled CSK to 162 runs total, which seems below par on Chepauk's surface. But it's still a respectable total that the bowlers can fight on to make a game out of it.
