Former Test captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been appointed Pakistan national team's chief selector. He previously held the same position from 2016 to 2019 and was responsible for selecting players for various formats and overseeing the team's composition. Under him, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy 2017 with a win over India in the final.

It remains to be seen if Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn continue to remain members of the selection committee after Inzamam's appointment. The former Test captain's first major assignment will be the ODI World Cup later this year. The tournament takes place in India from October 5 to November 19.

But his new tenure will begin with the announcement of a squad for Pakistan's three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to commence on August 22. This will be followed by the Asia Cup.

The former Pakistani cricketer is widely regarded as one of the country's greatest batsmen. He had a prolific international cricket career that spanned from 1991 to 2007. Inzamam was known for his elegant and powerful batting style, often displaying exceptional timing and the ability to play both aggressive and composed innings.

In 120 Test matches, he scored 8,830 runs at an average of 49.60. This includes 25 centuries and 46 half-centuries. Meanwhile, in 378 ODIs, Inzamam scored 11,739 runs at an average of 39.52, including 10 centuries and 83 half centuries.
