Suryakumar Yadav roared back to form with a scintillating 83 against West Indies in the third T20I of their five-match series. The innings marked the cricketer’s first half-century of the tour, and it orchestrated a clinical run-chase for the Indian team in a must-win game.

Unsurprisingly, Yadav was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts. After the contest, the T20 veteran praised his Mumbai Indians teammate Tilak Varma as the duo were involved in a game-changing 87-run partnership in the middle overs.

Suryakumar Yadav arrived to the crease within the opening over of the innings after debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal. The senior batter also lost Shubman Gill a while later during the powerplay overs.

Gill’s departure paved way for Tilak Varma, who formed an 87-run partnership with his senior IPL teammate. Yadav himself clubbed a boundary-laden 83 from just 44 deliveries, while the youngster remained unbeaten till the finishing line at 49.

After the match, the 32-year-old Indian batsman praised Varma while talking about his partnership with his Mumbai Indians teammate.

“It was really important to be myself when I went in to bat in the powerplay, that's what the team management also wanted. I have practised these strokes a lot and I love doing that. We (me and Tilak Varma) have batted together for a long time, we both understand how each other bats and the way he batted it gave me a lot of confidence. It was a great innings from him at the other end.”

Suryakumar Yadav will now turn up for India in the fourth match in Lauderhill as the action shifts to the USA leg of the tour for the final two T20Is.

The fourth match of the series is set to be played on August 12.
