Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq has been named advisor to current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf. Misbah earlier served as Pakistan's head coach between 2019-2021 and as chief selector from 2019-2020.

The appointment is an honorary role and not monetary for Haq, who rejected a full-time position within the board citing other commitments. Haq's major job will be to look after cricket affairs, both international and domestic.

As per ESPNCricinfo, the former skipper could also head a soon-to-be-formed cricket committee. Haq, resigned after former captain Ramiz Raja took over reigns as PCB head in September 2021, and since then been doing commentary and expert analyst gigs.

The 49-year-old had earlier expressed unavailability to take up a role with the Pakistan cricket team as coach or selector.

Interestingly, Haq critised Mickey Arthur's appointment as Pakistan's Team Director in February, calling it ' a slap on our cricket system'.  The former Islamabad United player-cum-coach played a crucial role in the removal of Arthur during his first stint as coach.
