Wanindu Hasaranga Slams Fastest Fifty in LPL 2023; Joins An Elite List With Killer All-Round Performance

The 12th match of the ongoing Lanka Premier League is being played between B-Love Kandy and Galle Titans at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Batting first, Kandy scored an imposing total of 207 runs with significant contributions from Fakhar Zaman, Angelo Mathews and Wanindu Hasaranga. 

Hasaranga was the best performer among them, with a 27-ball 64. He reached his half century of just 18 balls, which is the fastest in the LPL 2023. He also picked four wickets with the ball and made sure that Galle Titans were hammered by 89 runs.  This blockbuster knock came only two days after the all-rounder picked up his 200th T20 wicket in the tournament.

The record for the fastest 50 in T20 cricket (both T20 internationals and other T20Is) is jointly held by Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and Hazratullah Zazai, all of whom got to 50 in 12 balls. Yuvraj did it against England in an international match, while the other two knocks came in Big Bash League and Afghanistan Premier League, respectively.

Meanwhile, this is the fourth season of LPL. The league was started by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in 2018 and has gained prominence over the years. The current title holder are Jaffna Kings, who won the 2022 contest by defeating Colombo Stars in the final. LPL 2023 began on July 30 and will end on August 20.

Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the top-ranked all-rounders in ICC rankings. His best performances have come in the game’s shortest format, where he has taken 91 wickets in 58 matches.
