India got off to a strong start in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle with a commanding victory over West Indies in the first Test held at Windsor Park in Dominica. After their defeat in the WTC 2023 final against Australia, the Indian team returned to action and displayed dominance against the hosts.

With just one game played in the new cycle, India claimed the top spot in the WTC 2023-25 points table with a perfect 100% win record. Australia closely followed in second place, while England secured the third position. In contrast, West Indies remained at the bottom of the table after suffering a crushing defeat by an innings and 141 runs.

The Indian team showcased exceptional performances during the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal made an impressive Test debut by scoring 171 runs, and Ravichandran Ashwin shone with a five-wicket haul in the first innings, restricting West Indies to a meager total of 150 runs. India continued their dominance, reaching 421/5 before skipper Rohit Sharma declared the innings.

In the second innings, West Indies were once again dismantled by Ashwin, who took seven wickets to single-handedly dismantle the opposition batting lineup. Following this resounding victory, India surged to the top of the WTC 2025 points table.

Australia occupied the second position with a win percentage of 61.11% after playing three games, securing two wins and suffering one loss against England in the ongoing Ashes 2023. England held the third spot with a win percentage of 27.78% after winning one match, keeping the Ashes alive, and setting the series at 2-1 ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester.

The upcoming second Test between India and West Indies is scheduled to commence on July 20. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, will aim to secure a victory in the match, thereby clinching the series and maintaining their momentum towards reaching a third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final.
