India's batting coach Vikram Rathour praised the adaptability shown by openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal during the first Test match against West Indies in Dominica.

Jaiswal and Rohit formed a formidable partnership, sharing a record-breaking stand of 229 runs. While Rohit scored a century before getting dismissed for 103, it was Jaiswal who stole the show with his outstanding knock of 171 runs.

This partnership now stands as India's highest-opening partnership against West Indies in Test cricket, surpassing the previous record of 201 runs set by Virender Sehwag and Sanjay Bangar in 2002.

Reflecting on the performance of the openers, Rathour expressed his satisfaction with the team's overall performance in the match. Despite losing the toss, he commended the bowlers for their excellent performance on a pitch that seemed favourable for batting.

“We have had a good game so far. We lost the toss but our bowlers did well on this surface which has looked good for batting. The batters have then stepped up. It was not an easy wicket to bat on. The ball was holding a bit and the outfield is heavy. Credit to Jaiswal for adapting to the conditions. Rohit was very good as well. He adapted to the conditions very well,”  Vikram Rathour said during a chat on Jio Cinema.

He further emphasized the significance of decision-making while batting on surfaces like these, stating the need to adjust shot selection based on the conditions.

“The most important thing while batting on these surfaces is decision-making. What shots to play after adapting to the conditions”  Rathour further added.

The partnership between Jaiswal and Rohit played a crucial role in India's success, setting the tone for an impressive victory in the first Test against the home team. India lead the series 1-0 and the second Test match will take place in Trinidad on July 20.
