Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has received a grand honour from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI officially named a special board room after him at its headquarters in Mumbai, celebrating Gavaskar’s iconic achievement of becoming the first cricketer in history to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

Gavaskar is generally considered to be among the greatest batters the game has ever seen. He played for India between 1971 and 1987 and was known for his calm style and strong defence against some of the world’s fastest bowlers.

He created history when he became the first player to cross the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket, a record that stood as a major milestone for many years.

A video shared by the BCCI on social media showed the emotional moment when Sunil Gavaskar, along with board President Roger Binny, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, and Secretary Devajit Saikia, inaugurated the board room named after him at BCCI’s headquarters in Mumbai.

The room, titled '1000 Gavaskar,' is intended to be a reminder of Gavaskar's record of achieving 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

This tribute from the BCCI is not only a recognition of his stats but also a celebration of the values, discipline, and class Gavaskar brought to Indian cricket. Speaking at the event, Gavaskar thanked the board and fans for their support throughout his career.

Gavaskar Requests IPL To Ditch Glamour

Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam and IPL’s temporary halt, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar urged the BCCI to resume the tournament without cheerleaders, DJs, or fireworks. He stressed on showing respect to the victims and focusing solely on cricket. The BCCI is now seriously considering Gavaskar’s appeal, with a final decision expected soon. The IPL resumes on May 17 with a toned-down atmosphere likely.
