After a week-long suspension triggered by rising India-Pakistan tensions and a tragic terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, the IPL 2025 is set to resume on Saturday, May 17. The tournament was halted midway during the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals encounter on May 8 amid security concerns.

The suspension of the IPL came after brutal terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam. The shocking incident drew widespread criticism and prompted the Indian government to launch Operation Sindoor.

Sunil Gavaskar’s Solemn Appeal

Earlier legend Sunil Gavaskar has appealed to the BCCI to conduct the remainder of the tournament without any fun: no cheerleaders, DJs, or fireworks. Gavaskar emphasised that the focus must be entirely on cricket and on honouring those who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack.

As the IPL gears up for a return, Sunil Gavaskar’s recent comments have struck a chord. According to reports by India Today as quoted by NDTV Sports, Gavaskar urged the BCCI to ensure that the remaining matches proceed in a restrained manner.

The BCCI is now seriously evaluating his suggestion. A decision is expected soon on whether the IPL will be conducted without its usual glamour and entertainment.

"The Indian cricket board will make a decision after Sunil Gavaskar urged the BCCI to stage the remaining 17 matches without cheerleaders and DJs," the report said.

It is important to mention that during previous match between SRH and MI, players from both teams wore black armbands and observed a minute's silence. The match notably proceeded without cheerleaders or fireworks.

IPL All Set To Resume With KKR vs RCB Clash

The IPL will resume with a high-octane clash between KKR and RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 17. Following the suspension, several foreign players had departed for their home countries. The BCCI has now placed the responsibility on the franchises to coordinate and confirm their return for the rest of the season.
