Indian captain Rohit Sharma sustained his purple patch, as he hammered a blistering 44-ball 64 in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Sri Lanka. Opening the batting, Rohit brought up his half-century in just 29 deliveries, ensuring a great start for the Indian team.

Rohit breaks Gayle's unique six-hitting record

Known for his nonchalant six-hitting skills, Rohit overtook legendary West Indies batter Chris Gayle to record the most sixes during run-chases in One-Day Internationals.

The Indian captain smashed four glorious maximums, including his trademark pull shot off Asitha Fernando, surpassing Gayle's tally of 177 sixes in ODI run-chases.

Regarding the game, despite Rohit's whirlwind knock, India crumbled during the run-chase, falling short of the target by 32 runs.

Wily leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for Sri Lanka, registering clinical bowling figures of 6/33 in his ten-over spell.

With Sri Lanka leading the series by 1-0, both teams will collide in the decider at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.
