The age-old rivalry is ready to light up Doha once again. India and Pakistan, two cricketing powerhouses with a history that never runs dry, have landed in the same group for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup Rising Stars Championship, scheduled from November 14 to 23 in Qatar.
India and Pakistan land in same group for Asia Cup Rising Stars Championship
Cricket’s most followed rivalry gets another twist as both nations’ A teams are set to face off in the group stage. With the tournament hosted in Doha, fans can already smell the intensity in the air.
India A, Pakistan A, UAE, and Oman make up Group A, while Group B features Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A, and Hong Kong. It is a format that guarantees high-stakes cricket right from the start.
Unlike the senior Asia Cup, this edition skips the Super Four stage, meaning there is no safety net. One slip-up and you are out. The top two teams from each group move straight into the semis.
Defending champions with a point to prove
While everyone’s eyes will be on the India–Pakistan showdown, Afghanistan A quietly walks in as the defending champion. They stunned everyone last year by beating a Tilak Varma-led India A in the semis before toppling Sri Lanka A in the final at Al Amerat, Oman.
The Afghans have a knack for producing fearless cricketers, and they will be eager to show everyone why they dominate this format.
Meanwhile, the 15-match tournament promises to be a perfect stage for the region’s best young guns. Doha’s November heat will only add to the intensity as rising stars from eight nations battle for continental glory.
And once the Rising Stars tournament wraps up, the year will close with yet another Asia Cup, this time for the Under-19s. The dates are set for December, though venues are still under wraps.
