Indian Women lit up Navi Mumbai on Thursday as they pulled off a record-breaking chase to storm into the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final. Chasing a colossal 339 against defending champions Australia, India showed nerves of steel to gun it down with five wickets in hand and nine balls to spare, making it the highest successful chase in the history of women’s ODIs.
With that, let’s look at the top three highest successful chases in Women’s ODIs.
3. 305/4 by Sri Lanka vs South Africa, Potchefstroom, 2024 (T-302)
Chamari Athapaththu did what she does best: destroy bowling attacks for fun. Chasing a steep 302 against a strong South African side, the Sri Lankan skipper turned the contest into a one-woman show. Her unbeaten 195 off just 139 balls, laced with 26 fours and five sixes, remains one of the greatest innings in the women’s game.
Supported by Nilakshika Silva’s calm 50*, Athapaththu ensured Sri Lanka crossed the line in just 44.3 overs, winning by six wickets. South Africa had earlier posted 301/5, powered by Laura Wolvaardt’s sublime 184*, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Chamari storm that ripped through Potchefstroom.
2. 331/7 by Australia vs India, Vizag, 2025 (T-331)
This one was heartbreak for the hosts. India Women had piled on 330 in a high-octane World Cup 2025 group-stage clash with Smriti Mandhana (80) and Pratika Rawal (75) setting the tone. But Alyssa Healy turned up with a masterclass of her own, slamming 142 off 107 balls to help Australia pull off a sensational chase.
Phoebe Litchfield (40) and Ashleigh Gardner (45) provided strong support as Australia sealed the win by three wickets with six balls remaining, registering what was then the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history.
1. 341/5 by India vs Australia, DY Patil, 2025 (T-339)
Under pressure, under lights and up against the world’s best, India delivered a chase for the ages. After Australia’s mammoth 338, powered by Phoebe Litchfield’s 119 and Ellyse Perry’s fluent 77, it looked like a mountain too steep to climb. But Jemimah Rodrigues had other ideas.
Anchoring the innings with a brilliant unbeaten 127, she found the perfect ally in skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who smashed 89 off 88 balls. Their 167-run stand kept India in control before Deepti Sharma (24) and Richa Ghosh (26) played vital cameos. India’s 341/5 in 48.3 overs not only sealed the highest chase in women’s ODIs but also booked their ticket to the World Cup 2025 final against South Africa.
