In a significant development, the BCCI has formally written to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, asking him to return the Asia Cup trophy to India. However, the ACC chairman is keen to present the trophy in a presentation ceremony in Dubai to formally hand over the trophy.
BCCI demands Asia Cup trophy; ACC chief wants to conduct a ceremony in Dubai
According to a report by India Today, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia admitted to the board demanding the Asia Cup trophy through an official email to the ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. As we all know, India's dominant win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final was followed by a dramatic sequence of events, with the Indian team refusing to collect the trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the PCB chief.
Although the Indian team's gesture didn't breach any protocol, Naqvi left the stage in agony, taking the Asia Cup trophy with him. The PCB chief even kept the trophy in the ACC headquarters, strictly instructing against handing it over to the BCCI representatives without his approval.
As the situation worsened, the BCCI finally wrote an official email to the ACC chief, asking him to return the Asia Cup trophy to India. However, as reported by Geo Super, Mohsin Naqvi wishes to present the trophy to the Indian team in a presentation ceremony in Dubai in the first week of November, and his message has already been passed to the BCCI.
“If you want the trophy, we can hold a ceremony where you can receive it,” the ACC chief told the BCCI, as quoted by Geo Super.
Geopolitics enters Women's WC amid Indo-Pak drama
While Suryakumar Yadav and his troops refused to shake hands with the Pakistan players throughout the Asia Cup, the Indian Women's team also refrained from performing the customary handshake in the ongoing World Cup edition. Considering how things have panned out in the recent past, it won't be surprising if players from both countries don't indulge in any kind of interaction in their upcoming encounters.
