In a significant blow, the longstanding political tensions between Pakistan and India have cast a shadow over the upcoming Champions Trophy, which is set to be hosted by Pakistan. With Pakistan's threats to boycott the tournament and after India refuses to travel to Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is now facing the possibility of severe financial repercussions due to this unavoidable situation between the biggest rivals. 

The conflict between them has rooted from Pakistan’s firm stance on its policy of not conducting the mega event in hybrid format.

On the other hand, recently the Indian government has remained stern to not allow Indian team to play in Pakistan. With both nations unwilling to compromise, the future of their participation in ICC tournaments hosted by each other is now under a cloud.

Why Will ICC Face Financial Loss If India and Pakistan Don't Clash In Champions Trophy?

According to the reports from Cricket Pakistan, as India has chosen not to travel to Pakistan, the host nation has indicated it would retaliate by boycotting matches held in India for upcoming ICC events.

According to the same report, the absence of India and Pakistan not participating in each other's hosted events would largely impact the financial implications for the ICC. The global cricketing body has already secured a $3.2 billion broadcasting rights deal valid until 2027, heavily banking this mega event and to be specific for the highly anticipated India-Pakistan matches that attract millions of viewers worldwide.

Pakistan's Information Minister has already hinted at this possibility, suggesting that the Pakistan would withdraw from the tournament if India force for hybrid mode.

The loss of Pakistan-India encounters are the most-watched fixtures and drive the bulk of the ICC’s advertising revenue. The lack of such fixtures and the current scenario related to Champions Trophy 2025 and will definitely affect the ICC financial status.

It is worth mentioning that the ICC will definitely be in a state of worry and will leave no stone unturned to make sure that they can possible find any other alternative. According to several reports, ICC has also requested PCB to opt for hybrid format for India's matches and if Pakistan does not select hybrid mode, there are chances that ICC might shift the venue from Pakistan to South Africa.
