Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has taken a sly dig at India amidst BCCI’s refusal of sending the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy next year. For months, several reports have been indicating that the BCCI has been pushing the concept of hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, with India’s share of matches taking place in a separate country like UAE or Sri Lanka.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have also remained adamant in its stance of being the sole hosts of the tournament, unlike the 2023 Asia Cup where they had to co-host the event at the last minute with Sri Lanka.
Hafeez blasts India amidst CT 2025 reports
A couple of days after reports surfaced that the BCCI will not be sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, former ‘Men in Green’ captain and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez took to X and took a sly dig at India’s security concerns. The 44-year-old claimed that Pakistan is ready to host the tournament for all nations, and somehow India is the only team that feels unsecure in participating.
Hafeez ended his statement that he is expecting a strong rebuttal from the Pakistan government and the PCB over India’s refusal.
The BCCI and the Indian government have repeatedly expressed their reluctance in sending the Indian team to Pakistan owing to the geopolitical tensions shared by the two countries. Moreover, the last time Team India played international cricket in Pakistan was back in 2008 for the Asia Cup.
As per reports, BCCI’s hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy was recently rejected by the PCB, owing to the latter’s desire of being the sole hosts of the tournament.
While India’s participation continues to remain an uncertainty, the Champions Trophy itself will be played in February and March next year. If India backs out of the competition, Sri Lanka will likely enter the eight-team event and play as one of the four participants from Group A.
