The political tussle between India and Pakistan might lead to the latter's withdrawal from the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy event. Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has the exclusive right to host the tournament on home soil. However, the BCCI informed the ICC that the Indian team didn't get the government's approval for travelling to the neighbouring country.
Pakistan Mulling To Withdraw From Champions Trophy
With the BCCI's negative stance forcing the ICC to implement the hybrid model, which demands the relocation of India's matches to a neutral venue in the UAE, the Pakistani government is considering pulling out its team from the marquee event.
According to The Dawn News, Pakistan's government has taken India's rigidity quite seriously, which is why it might ask the PCB to withdraw from the Champions Trophy if the apex cricketing body agrees to conduct the tournament in a hybrid model.
“In such a case, one of the options the government is mulling is that of asking the PCB to ensure Pakistan don’t participate in the Champions Trophy," a source told The Dawn.
Despite India not travelling to Pakistan, both countries still play against each other in cricketing competitions conducted by the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council. However, the report claims that Pakistan's federal government is also mulling to boycott any form of cricket against India if the BCCI doesn't send its team to the host nation for the Champions Trophy.
India vs Pakistan Cricket In Jeopardy As Politics Takes Control
Known as the mother of all battles, India vs Pakistan cricket has now been restricted only to multinational events, as the arch-rivals no longer clash in any form of bilateral contest. If the PCB takes the extreme step, it will be a nightmare for Indian and Pakistani cricket fanatics who dream of witnessing the riveting contest between the two sides.
