The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the nominees for the Women’s Player of the Month award for May 2025. The apex body has named one standout performer each from West Indies, South Africa, and India for their splendid performances throughout the month.
While West Indies’ captain and charismatic all-rounder Hayley Matthews made the cut, she is joined by South Africa’s hard-hitting Chloe Tryon and India’s stylish batter Jemimah Rodrigues in the shortlist.
Matthews, Jemimah among ICC POTM nominees
The ICC has shortlisted Hayley Matthews, Chloe Tryon and Jemimah Rodrigues as potential candidates for winning the Player of the Month award for the month of May 2025.
Matthews, currently in England for a white-ball series, punched out a 67-ball unbeaten ton against the hosts in Canterbury last month. She also scored a cracking half-century in Chelmsford, and followed it up with a fighting 48 in the first ODI match in Derby on May 30. Apart from accumulating 225 runs across all four white-ball fixtures, Hayley Matthews also picked up five wickets with the ball.
Chloe Tryon demonstrated her excellence in Sri Lanka during an ODI tri-series against India and the hosts. In match six of the series in Colombo, Tryon scored a cracking 51-ball 74 and also picked up sensational figures of 5-34. In an earlier match against India, the South African all-rounder composed 67 from just 43 balls and picked up the wicket of Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.
Jemimah Rodrigues, on the other hand, starred in India’s tri-series win in Sri Lanka with a swift 44 in the final. She also unleashed her magnum opus ODI score of 123 runs off 101 balls against South Africa Women in Colombo on May 7, clattering 15 fours and a six in the process.
