Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be attending the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for the IPL 2025 final. The politician also openly declared his support for the Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise.
Sunak said that since he is married into a Bengaluru family, RCB has been his favorite IPL team for quite some time. He also described Kohli as his favorite player, calling the Indian batting superstar a “total legend”.
RCB gets political power as Rishi Sunak will attend IPL final
In an exclusive report from the Times of India, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed that he will be attending the IPL 2025 final match between Punjab Kings and RCB at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Sunak added that he will be supporting the RCB franchise, calling himself an avid follower of the team and said that he even cheered for them on at Downing Street.
The UK politician also explained the reason behind his support for RCB, saying:
“I am married into a Bangalore family, so RCB is my team.”
Rishi Sunak further revealed that he owns a Virat Kohli-signed bat as gifted to him by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
The RCB franchise qualified for the IPL 2025 final by defeating Punjab Kings in the first qualifier in New Chandigarh last week. Earlier in the tournament, the Rajat Patidar-led team finished second on the points table by securing nine wins and sustaining four defeats from 13 matches. RCB’s impending appearance marks their first IPL final since the 2016 edition of the tournament.
The match between Punjab Kings and RCB will be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, June 3 and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
