Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg has expressed his desire of seeing Indian players in Australia-based Big Bash League (BBL). Greenberg confirmed that Cricket Australia is in repeated talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a bid to allow Indian players for participating in the Australian league.

The Cricket Australia CEO also singled out Indian batting superstar and modern-day cricketing behemoth Virat Kohli, claiming that his presence would surely boost BBL ratings and fan interest.

CA CEO wants Indian players In BBL

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg has said that he would love to welcome Indian players into the BBL and the board is already discussing the possibility with the BCCI. While Greenberg claimed that the presence of Indian players like Virat Kohli would boost interest in crowds and ratings of the BBL, he does not see his ambitions getting fulfilled anytime soon.

While speaking with the media and as quoted by News18, the Cricket Australia official said:

“We would love to welcome some Indian players to the BBL - That's certainly some conversations that we will continue to have with the BCCI - I would love to see, Virat Kohli playing in the BBL this year. That would certainly create some interest in crowds and ratings, I'm sure but at the moment, that's not happening, but we do have our ambitions to do those types of things.”

It is worth noting that BCCI does not allow its male players to participate in overseas T20 leagues. The same restriction, however, is not imposed on female players as several Indian women stars like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues have participated in Women’s Big Bash League over the years.

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma was even part of the London Spirit team that lifted The Hundred 2024 women’s competition back in August last year at The Oval.
