Pakistan cricket is going through a turmoil in 2024. When Shan Masood was appointed as the Test captain, there was a sense of optimism within the side, but fast forward to almost a year later, thing have gone from bad to worse for the Asian side, especially in Tests.

They were thrashed by Australia, 3-0 in the series Down Under, but the Pakistan team were expected to beat the visiting Bangladesh side in the two-match Test series.

Gillespie's mantra of success for Pakistan

However, the Tigers stunned the cricketing fraternity when they hammered Masood led Pakistan team 2-0 and inflicted one of the most pain-staking defeat in their Test history.

Meanwhile, the series loss against Bangladesh meant that Pakistan have already crashed out of the WTC finale race, and will now face a tough challenge in the form of England. The Ben Stokes led side clean swept Pakistan, the last time these two teams met in whites, and will be relatively confident of producing the same result again.

Reflecting on the series, Pakistan Test coach, Jason Gillespie gave a stern warning to the Pakistan team, and told them to be ruthless against a strong England side. He felt that the scoreline against Bangladesh was deceiving, and Pakistan should get the job done when they are on top.

"What we need is a bit more ruthlessness. When we're ahead, we need to stay ahead and make sure we really drive home that advantage. That's the main takeaway from the Bangladesh series. There was some very good work done, but when we had a bad hour, it really set us back. We need to minimise those poor periods and maximize the good ones," Gillespie said in a Podcast conducted by PCB.

Gillespie hails England's Bazball approach

Gillespie lauded their next Test opponent, England, stating that the approach is refreshing, and England have a style of play which has given them results in the past. However, he added that their new aggressive approach won't scare the Pakistan side, and they will have their game-play ready when the series begins.

The first Test will begin in Multan on October 7, followed by the second Test on 15th, at the same venue, and the final game of the series will be played in Rawalpindi on October 24.
