In a major development, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced a formidable men's squad for the upcoming Test series against Australia. Roston Chase has been named the captain, while experienced spinner Jomel Warrican will play as his deputy.
Hope Returns, King Receives Maiden Test Call-up
West Indies' white-ball skipper Shai Hope and vice-captain Brandon King have been included in the Test squad for the Australia series. While Hope makes a well-deserved Test comeback following his recent batting exploits, King gets into the Test squad for the very first time.
Former captain Kraigg Brathwaite will spearhead the hosts' top order along with John Campbell, who also receives a recall into the longest format. The presence of impactful batters like the in-form Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves and Mikyle Louis makes West Indies a tough team to beat in their backyard.
Kemar Roach Misses Out
Meanwhile, West Indies haven't included Kemar Roach despite the veteran fast bowler being in contention for a spot in the Test squad. In his absence, the home team will rely on the formidable trio of Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph to lead their pace battery in the three-match series.
Apart from King, Kevlon Anderson is another player to get a first-time entry into the Test setup, while Johann Layne and Anderson Phillip have made it into the squad to boost the pace-bowling department. Skipper Chase will lead the spin attack with the vice-captain, Jomel Warrican.
