The England cricket team management has reportedly called up 19-year-old fast bowler Eddie Jack for the upcoming five-match Test series against India at home. Plagued with injuries to several key players, the English management was forced to look up to the young Hampshire lad, who made his first-class debut late last month with a match against India A in Canterbury.

Jack will be filling in for Josh Tongue, who walked out of the field during England Lions’ second unofficial Test against India A in Northampton after bowling 20.3 overs in the first innings.

England Face Bowling Crisis, Calls Up Uncapped Paceman

Josh Tongue picked up two wickets from 20.3 overs against India A in Northampton earlier this month before walking off the field owing to an injury. Since Tongue was also slated to represent the senior England men’s team against India in the impending five-match Test series, his injury has prompted the English team management to call up 19-year-old Hampshire fast bowler Eddie Jack, as reported by the Indian Express.

Jack, who has played just two first-class matches in his career, both within the space of the past two weeks against the visiting India A team, picked up four wickets across four innings at an average of 53.

Notably, the England cricket team is facing a massive injury crisis in its overall bowling department. Apart from Josh Tongue’s seemingly-certain unavailability, Jofra Archer is also set to miss England’s series opener against India.

Mark Wood has been ruled out of the entire English summer owing to the injury he picked up during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan earlier this year. Gus Atkinson, on the other hand, is yet to recover from the hamstring injury he sustained against Zimbabwe in Nottingham in May.
