Hong-Kong’s veteran off-spinner, Ehsan Khan has spun his way into the record books by becoming the first bowler from his country to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals.

The Ehsan Khan 100 T20I wickets milestone was unlocked during a gripping contest against Malaysia in the Malaysia Tri-Nation T20 Cup on Monday at the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Ehsan Khan’s remarkable achievement didn’t just come in any ordinary match. It was a high-stakes game where his four-wicket haul (4-0-28-4) played a decisive role in securing a seven-run victory for Hong Kong. The win elevated Hong Kong to second place in the tournament standings.

Throughout his career, Ehsan Khan has been a thorn in the side of some of cricket’s biggest names. He first made waves on the international stage during the Asia Cup 2018 when he famously dismissed Indian legends MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in a single match.

Although Hong Kong fell short in that game, losing to India by 26 runs, Khan’s scalps of Dhoni (for a duck) and Rohit were standout moments.

His knack for taking crucial wickets continued in the Asia Cup 2022, where he once again got the better of Pakistan’s Babar Azam, one of the world’s premier batsmen.

In his T20I career, Ehsan has been the epitome of consistency. Over 71 matches, he has bagged 101 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.15.

His tally includes four four-wicket hauls, which highlight his ability to deliver match-winning performances. Beyond the shortest format, Khan has also excelled in ODIs, where he is second on the list of Hong Kong’s leading wicket-takers, with 29 wickets from 15 matches.

Coming to the match against Malaysia, Khan’s experience proved invaluable as he dismantled the opposition’s batting lineup. His efforts ensured that Malaysia fell short in their chase, being restricted to 146 for seven in pursuit of Hong Kong's total of 153.

This victory propelled Hong Kong to second place on the tournament table with four points and a net run rate of 0.218, setting up an eagerly anticipated final clash against Kuwait on Tuesday, August 27.
