Indian origin allround cricketer Nikhil Chaudhary has signed with Hobart Hurricanes for the next three editions of the Big Bash League (BBL), Australia's premier domestic T20 competition. After impressing the Hurricanes set-up with his debut campaign this summer, he has secured a base with the club until the 2026-27 season of the BBL.

Born in Delhi, Chaudhary moved to Australia in 2020 to pursue his cricketing ambitions and after rising up through the grassroots levels, joined the Hurricanes for BBL 2023-24. He made an instance name for himself by smashing a crucial 40 off 31 balls on debut versus the Perth Scorchers.

Jeff Vaughan, the Hurricanes head coach, lauded the young cricketer's mentality and talent on display during the just-concluded season and felt chuffed to have secured a promising signing for the next three seasons.

Hurricanes Sign Nihil Chaudhary On Long-Term Deal

"Nikhil was one of our stronger performers during BB13, to watch his growth as a cricketer and take his opportunity when it was given to him - was fantastic for our team and supporters,"  Vaughan was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

"Re-signing 'Nikky' for another 3 years gives us a talented leg-spinning allrounder, but also someone who can help continue to build our culture and brand of Hurricanes cricket," he added.

Chaudhary was one of the shining lights amidst the doom and gloom endured by the Hurricanes as the 27-year-old smashed 154 runs at a strike-rate of 142.59 and also provided critical breakthroughs for his side, bagging five scalps with a useful economy rate of just 7.21.

Despite Chaudhary's encouraging performances, however, the Hurricanes failed to cross over the league stage. The club won just four of its ten matches during the campaign and lost six of those to end fifth in the eight-team standings.
