In a massive setback for New Zealand, ace speedster Matt Henry and experienced top-order batter Tim Seifert have been ruled out of the upcoming Australia T20Is due to injury.

Henry sustained a hip injury during the second Test against South Africa, whereas Seifert damaged his abductor muscle while training for Northern Districts earlier this week. Henry will need some time to recover for the highly anticipated Test series against the Aussies, where he is expected to play a key role for the hosts.

Ben Sears and Will Young have been added to the BlackCaps squad as replacements for Henry and Seifert, respectively.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed his disappointment at Henry and Seifert missing out on the T20I series. He said,

"Matt is understandably disappointed, but a break for the T20s will ensure he’s fully fit and ready to go for the Tests against Australia later this month. We are gutted for Tim who has been a strong performer over recent series and is an important part of the squad. We are hopeful he’ll make a swift recovery ahead of an important period of T20I cricket for the team.”

In 11 T20Is, Ben Sears has proven his bowling mettle, scalping 13 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 16.1. Meanwhile, Will Young has been a regular face in New Zealand's white-ball setup and is expected to play a vital role in this series.
