Ex-RCB Star Kyle Jamieson Faces Another Year On Sidelines With Stress Fracture

Kyle Jamieson's poor fortunes with injuries continue as the New Zealand fast-bowler faces the prospect of another year out on the sidelines due to a back stress fracture.

The tall speedster, who had missed a sustained period of international action due to back surgery following the tour of England in June 2022, has faced the latest injury on the same part after initially feeling soreness following the opening Test against South Africa in Mount Maunganui.

Jamieson was subsequently ruled out of the second Test in Hamilton after the scans revealed the extent of the injury, an unlucky recurrence as the pacer had bowled in great rhythm with his six wickets in New Zealand's win at the Bay Oval.

Jamieson Faces Year Out With Recurring Back Injury

Jamieson confirmed an injury update via New Zealand Cricket's (NZC) media release and emphasised how recovering from such setbacks is more of a mental challenge than a physical one, having spent the 2022-23 season recuperating from his previous injury.

"I've got a bit of a roadmap as to how to manage it. I know some of the hurdles I'll have to overcome, probably more mentally and emotionally, the physical side is the easy part. You just rest and build back up. It's almost autopilot in a way," Jamieson said.

"It's more the mental hurdles, months on end, you are halfway through and a fair bit of time has gone and there's still a fair chunk of time away. It's tough because you don't want to go through it again. You hope that each time is the last time but I'm also 6'8'' and trying to bowl fast, so know it's definitely part of the journey."

One of the most promising young talents in world cricket, Jamieson has been shining bright at the Test level for New Zealand. The 29-year-old pacer has taken 80 wickets in 19 Tests at an average of just 19.73.
