A terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday left 26 dead, primarily tourists, marking the deadliest violence in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike. The assault, occurring near a meadow, has triggered shockwaves across the country, with authorities launching investigations and rescue operations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar late Tuesday, reviewing the situation with local officials and planning visits to attack sites and hospitals. Indian cricketers joined citizens in condemning the tragedy, with star batter and Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill expressing grief.
Shubman Gill's Outcry After Deadly Kashmir Attack
The GT skipper expressed strong condemnation over the “heart-breaking” incident.
“Heartbreaking to hear about the attack in Pahalgam. My prayers are with the victims and their families. Violence like this has no place in our country,” in his X (formerly Twitter) post.
Gill's sentiments echoed nationwide outrage, as former players and officials also voiced solidarity. Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, now an IPL coach, shared on social media, “Shocked and angry to hear what happened in Kashmir today… Praying for the souls of those who lost their lives.”
Indian coach Gautam Gambhir, a former BJP MP, vowed retribution, “India will strike. #Pahalgam.” Locals in Pahalgam organized a candlelight vigil, denouncing the attack as Shah chaired high-level security meetings. The Home Minister is slated to meet injured victims and visit the attack site Wednesday, signalling a heightened governmental focus on the region’s security.
Meanwhile, the IPL is under full sway and GT is on a roll currently. They are leading the points table with 6 wins in their bag out of their 8 matches. They will be next facing Rajasthan Royals for their 9th encounter on April 28.
