GT captain Shubman Gill turned into a beast against his former team KKR as he scored a sublime inning of 90 off 55 balls at Eden Gardens. Fans on social media praised Gill but also highlighted how Kolkata missed an opportunity to make Shubman the face of the franchise.

In the 39th match of the IPL 2025 season, GT faced KKR at the latter’s home ground in Eden Gardens. The Titans batted first with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan dominating. The duo knitted a 114-run partnership for the opening wicket.

While Sudharsan scored 52 off 36 balls, Gill went on to hammer 90 runs off 55 balls. Meanwhile, the GT captain’s carnage forced KKR fans to wonder about a missed opportunity.

KKR Fans Bittersweet On Shubman Gill’s Heroics 

Shubman Gill was praised heavily on social media by fans after his stunning inning of 90 off 55 balls vs KKR at Eden Gardens. However, Kolkata fans had mixed emotions. 

While they were happy about Gill’s success, some supporters slammed the franchise for not backing Shubman at the right time. Interestingly, Gill started his IPL career with KKR back in 2018. He played for 4 seasons before the Knight Riders released him in the 2022 mega auction. 

GT picked him for INR 8 crore and appointed him as captain in 2024 after Hardik Pandya’s departure.  Hence, fans remembered old times when Shubman Gill was touted as the future face of KKR before the management fumbled him. Here are a few tweets related to the trend.
