Defending champions, Australia have announced their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in UAE in October.

With Meg Lanning retiring from international cricket, the captaincy command has been given to Alyssa Healy, who will lead the side for the first time in a World Cup tournament. The core of the squad remains the same, with the only surprise exclusion being that of Jess Jonassen.

Star spinner excluded from T20 World Cup squad

Despite showing strong form in the Women's Premier League and The Hundred, Jonassen was dropped from the squad. Despite taking more wickets than any other Aussie spinner, the left-arm spinner was not considered in the side by the team management.

Speedster, Darcie Brown has recovered from her foot injury and gives a massive boost to the regining champions, who will look to defend their crown in UAE. X-factor, Grace Harris, who missed The Hundred due to a calf injury, has also recovered and will be a part of the squad.

Rising star, Phoebe Litchfield will play her first ICC tournament for the Aussies, as she will most likely open alongside skipper Alyssa Healy.

The team for the World Cup will also feature in a 3-match T20I series against New Zealand, prior to the mega event.

The Aussies were set to face Sri Lanka in their opening game of the T20 World Cup, but ICC is yet to confirm an updated schedule, since the tournament has moved from Bangladesh to UAE.
