England have suffered a fresh injury setback, with tearaway pacer, Mark Wood not to bowl on Day 4 of the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Wood, limped off the field on Day 3, while bowling his 11th over of the day. His remaining deliveries were completed by Joe Root, who actually managed to get the wicket of Milan Rathnayake.

Injury prone Wood gives massive headache to England

Wood walked out of the field without any support, but the fact that he held his right thigh was a cause of concern, since he has constantly been troubled by thigh injuries in the past. The quick bowler went for scans on Saturday morning, and as a result, the England team management are not taking any risks with Wood.

The ECB released a media statement on Saturday morning, stating: "England pace bowler Mark Wood has sustained a right thigh muscle injury late on the third day of the first Rothesay Test against Sri Lanka at Emirates Old Trafford.

He will not return to the field today and will continue to be assessed by the England medical team to determine the full extent of the injury."

In the absence of Wood, the bowling onus will lie on the shoulders on Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, Chris Woakes, Shoaib Bashir and Joe Root to some extend.

At the moment, Sri Lanka are 204/6 in their second innings, and they lead by 82 runs.
