Caribbean Tigers defeated New York Tigers by 56 runs in the final of the inaugural edition of the Max60 Caribbean League 2024 on Sunday at Georgetown.

Josh Brown’s Blazing 60 Powers Tigers to 125/6

Caribbean Tigers put on a clinic display of aggressive batting, setting a challenging target of 126 runs for the New York Strikers.

Josh Brown led the charge with a blistering knock of 60 off just 18 balls, hitting six huge sixes and four boundaries, putting the Strikers under the pump from the get-go.

Chris Lynn also played a crucial role, adding 35 off 16 deliveries, further consolidating the Tigers' dominance.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the Tigers maintained a scorching run rate, finishing their innings at 125/6 in their 10 overs.

New York Strikers’ bowling attack had no answers for the onslaught, with Isuru Udana, in particular, having a day to forget, conceding 48 runs in his two overs. Ansh Patel and Akhilesh Reddy managed to claim two wickets each.

Lakmal’s 3-Wicket Burst Crushes Strikers' Chase

Chasing 126, New York Strikers found themselves in hot water right from the start. Suranga Lakmal struck early, dismissing Mitchell Owen for a duck and Kennar Lewis for just 4, leaving the Strikers reeling at 18/2.

Brandon McMullen showed some resistance with a quick 12 off 7 balls, but the Tigers’ bowlers kept the pressure on, not allowing any breathing room.

The Strikers' captain, Thisara Perera, briefly raised hopes with a fighting 25 off 11 balls, but once he fell, it was curtains for the Strikers.

Suranga Lakmal, Brad Currie, and Michael Leask shared the spoils, each picking up crucial wickets and ensuring that the Strikers never got out of first gear.

Lakmal was particularly impressive, taking 3 wickets for just 9 runs in his 1.1 overs, wrapping up the Strikers’ innings at a paltry 69 in just 8.1 overs.

The Tigers' bowlers had clearly come to finish the job, and they did so with aplomb to guide their side to Max60 Caribbean League 2024 title win.
