West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has been ruled out of her team’s playing XI for the second ODI match against England Women. The in-form all-rounder sustained a shoulder injury before the Leicester game, prompting the West Indies team management to make changes into the playing composition.

Matthews composed a fighting 48 at run-a-ball in the first ODI of the series, after aggregating 177 runs in the three-match T20I series against hosts England late last month.

Campbelle leads WI in place of Hayley Matthews

Shemaine Campbelle is leading the West Indies cricket team against England in the second ODI in Leicester in place of injured Hayley Matthews. Additionally, the West Indies team management also brought back all-rounder Stafanie Taylor into the playing XI as Matthews’ replacement.

Under the leadership of Hayley Matthews, West Indies lost the three-match T20I series by a 0-3 margin last month. The visitors also lost the series-opening first ODI match at the County Cricket Ground in Derby last week on May 30 by 108 runs.

Matthews, however, has played a fighting hand throughout the series with both bat and ball. The cricketer aggregated 177 runs in the three T20Is, with the added bonus of three wickets. She also picked up two wickets and cracked 48 off 47 balls in the first ODI.

Hayley’s all-round contributions against England led to her getting nominated by the ICC for the Player of the Month award for the month of May 2025.
