The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pipped Punjab Kings to lift the IPL 2025 title at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Winning the coveted silverware for the first time in the league’s 18-year history, the outcome sparked widespread celebrations in the RCB camp, with franchise zealot Virat Kohli shedding tears of joy as years of heartbreak and near-misses finally gave way to glory.
During the post-match celebration within the RCB dressing room, Kohli fittingly shared an emotional message with the rest of his colleagues, only to be interrupted by teammate Mayank Agarwal.
“Sorry to cut your…” says Mayank to Kohli
Shortly after the match, Virat Kohli entered the dressing room to share an emotional winning message with this RCB colleagues. He praised the team’s complete effort, and singled out “local Bengaluru boy” Mayank Agarwal for joining midway into the tournament and wearing the “RCB badge with pride”. He said:
“I am just relieved. Full bunch of match winners, people stepping up at different stages, putting their hands up to get the job done for the team. Just have that hunger and confidence in them. They just come and do the job. I mean, this guy, local lad (points at Mayank Agarwal) comes in and plays, you could see they wear that RCB badge with pride. That thing can never go away from a Bengaluru boy. This guy was special…”
As it turned out, Mayank Agarwal interrupted Virat Kohli’s speech, and described the latter as a “Bengaluru boy” himself as much as anybody else for his contributions for the city-based franchise for 18 years. As shared by the RCB franchise on social media, Agarwal said:
“Sorry to cut your… You playing for Bengaluru for 18 years, I can tell you one thing. The city, you are as much as a Bengaluru boy as anybody else. I am sure you have an idea, but in the coming days, you will experience the love of the city.”
RCB batted first and mounted 190-9 from 20 overs, with Virat Kohli himself top-scoring with 43 from 35 balls. Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal also chipped in with valuable contributions at the other end.
Defending 191, Krunal Pandya unfurled the spell of the match with figures of 2-17 as RCB kept Punjab Kings down by six runs to lift the IPL 2025 trophy.
