Shubman Gill is set to join the Indian Test squad for the upcoming home series against Bangladesh. The preparation for the series, as well as the two matches itself, will coincide with the remainder of the 2024 Duleep Trophy season in Anantapur.

With Gill originally designated to lead India A in the prestigious Indian first-class competition, he was replaced by Mayank Agarwal as the new skipper for the remaining matches. Agarwal’s ascension as captain aside, here at OneCricket, we reveal if the BCCI has also announced Shubman Gill’s playing replacement in the India A team.

Shubman Gill With India A In Duleep Trophy 2024

Shubman Gill led India A at Bengaluru in the opening match of the 2024 Duleep Trophy season last week. Under his leadership, India A slumped to a 76-run larruping to lose early advantage in the first-class Indian competition. Gill also punched out lacklustre scores of 25 and 21 across both innings of the match, and failed to notch up a notable opening partnership with Mayank Agarwal.

After he was selected in India’s squad for the impending Tests against Bangladesh, Agarwal was elected as India A captain instead. However, the BCCI is yet to formally announce Shubman Gill’s playing replacement in the India A team.

For instance, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was announced as the replacement for an injured Ishan Kishan in the India D for the remaining matches of the tournament. With India A slated to face India D in Anantapur in the third match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season, it remains to be seen who will step up as Shubman Gill’s replacement in the playing XI.

Gill, alongside the rest of the Indian team players, will be arriving in Chennai on September 12 for the first Test of the series against Bangladesh. The series will kick off on September 19 at the city’s Chepauk Stadium, and the fixtures will constitute a part of the 2023-25 WTC cycle.
