The England women’s cricket team has crafted several remarkable moments to inscribe itself in the storied pages of the game’s history books. One of the giants of women’s cricket, the four-time ODI World Cup winner holds a stellar record in 50-overs internationals as evidenced by their 50-plus year track record.

Celebrating the English women’s team, here at OneCricket, we take a look at five of the highest margin of victories recorded by them in ODI matches.

5. Win by 225 runs vs South Africa, 2008

England mauled a visiting South African group by 225 runs in the second ODI of their five-match series back in August 2008. Taking field at the iconic Lord’s stadium, the hosts mounted 310-3 from 50 overs courtesy of a career-best 145 from Caroline Atkins and another 129 from a then 19-year-old Sarah Taylor.

Defending 311 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series, English fast bowler and new-ball operator Katherine Sciver-Brunt picked up five South African wickets, including four as LBWs, at the expense of just 25 runs from 10 overs.

Charlotte Edwards picked up two tailenders while Isa Guha and Holly Colvin picked up a wicket each to help England skittle the entire South African line-up for just 85 in 39 overs.

4. Win by 230 runs vs Pakistan, 1997

England Women crashed Pakistan’s party by 230 runs in Vijayawada during the initial stages of the 1997 Women’s ODI World Cup. Batting first, the Englishwomen hauled 376-2 from 50 overs with majestic centuries by Janette Brittin (138 off 124) and Barbara Daniels (142* off 103). Opening batter Helen Plimmer and unbeaten number four Sue Metcalfe also belted the Pakistan bowlers with swift 30s each.

England bowlers defended the total with utmost comfort, as they restricted Pakistan’s charge to just 146 in a 47-over innings despite claiming only three wickets. Left-arm fast bowler Melissa Reynard picked up two of the three fallen Pakistani batters; while Clare Taylor, Laura Newton and Clare Connor strengthened England’s stronghold by leaking runs at less than 2.50 an over.

3. Win by 238 runs vs Scotland, 2001

In the opening match of the 2001 Women's European Championship, an Arran Brindle-led English team consigned Scottish Women to a huge 238-run larruping at the Bradfield College Ground.

After getting invited to bat first, England lost two quick wickets before Laura Harper (41) and Laura Spragg (33) consolidated the innings with handy knocks. Sarah Clarke ended up top-scoring for her team with an unbeaten 66 and shared a remarkable 85-run partnership for the eighth wicket with tailender Nicky Shaw (26*).

Later in the match, England bowlers enveloped the entire Scotland batting line-up for just 24 in 21.3 overs. Remarkably, seven extras conceded by the Englishwomen became the second biggest benefactor of Scotland’s sorry-looking scorecard after Sara MacLean’s eight-run effort. For England, Laura Harper picked up four wickets for just five runs in 5.3 overs and new-ball striker Isa Guha collected 2-2 in five overs with four maidens.

2. Win by 239 runs vs Denmark, 1993

England Women started off their victorious 1993 World Cup campaign at home with a crushing 239-run win over Denmark. After Janette Brittin’s 104-run onslaught fueled England to a 286-run total from 60 overs, hosts bowlers Clare Taylor (4-13) and Carole Hodges (4-3) clattered the Denmark batting line-up with identical four-wicket hauls.

Denmark’s sluggish day out at Banstead’s Recreation Ground eventually concluded after getting bundled out for just 47 in 33.5 overs. Number five batter Trine Christiansen top-scored with 23 of those runs, while English bowlers conceded 14 extras in the innings that featured as many as seven ducks.

1. Win by 275 runs vs Ireland, 2024

Under the leadership of Kate Cross, England Women pummeled hosts Ireland by 275 runs at the Civil Service Cricket Club in September 2024. The outcome helped the visitors seal their three-match ODI series with a game to spare in Belfast. In the same match, legendary English opener Tammy Beaumont carted 150* from 139 balls to become the first women’s cricketer from her country to list 10 ODI centuries.

Freya Kemp at number five also belted 65 runs off 47 deliveries to turbo-charge the English innings to a monumental 320-8 at the end of 50 overs. In response, the Irish innings crumbled at 45 in 16.5 overs in front of English opening pacewomen Kate Cross (3-8) and Lauren Filer (3-10). Freya Kemp and Georgia Davis also chipped in with two wickets each to orchestrate England’s series-winning triumph over Ireland.
