In an enthralling moment, Gerald Coetzee of South Africa deceived Kamindu Mendis with a fuller delivery wide outside the off-stump line. Mendis went for a drive but played a thick outside edge to Bedingham at first slip, and an exhilarated Coetzee roared on Mendis' face to celebrate the crucial wicket.

Day 2 of the first Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa held at Durban was owned by the hosts as the pace attack left the visitors batting lineup in shambles. After the Proteas got bowled out for 191/10, Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee unleashed brilliance with an extraordinary display of seam bowling.

Marco Jansen picked a 5-wicket-haul in just 6 overs before Gerald Coetzee joined the party. Sri Lanka's only hope was Kamindu Mendis, who owns an average of 94 in Tests this year. However, Coetzz's fiery spell was too good to handle for the Sri Lankan.

Gerald Coetzee came in to bowl the 11th over and teased Kamindu Mendis with a fuller ball well wide outside the off-stump line. Seeing the room, Mendis couldn't resist a drive. But he played it with hard hands as a thick outside edge flew straight to Bedingham at first slip. The fielder made no mistake as Mendis had to depart, leaving Sri Lanka 32/5.

Meanwhile, an excited Gerald Coetzee animatedly celebrated his wicket. He roared on a departing Mendis' face before his teammates surrounded him to applaud his sensational seam bowling.

Sri Lanka succumbs to 42/10 vs South Africa

That being said, the visitors couldn't weather the high-class spells of South African paces and were bowled out for just 42 runs, their lowest in Test cricket history. As many as 5 Lankan batters scored a duck whereas only Kamindu Mendis and Lahiru Kumara managing to score in double digits.

With a 149-run lead, the Proteas landed in the drivers' seat of the first Test with 3 days still left on the cards.
